What is PolicePath?

PolicePath is a free training companion for NSW Police Force recruits and trainees. It covers PCT fitness tracking, law study modules, interactive policing scenarios, mental resilience tools, and readiness scoring to help you prepare for a career in the NSW Police Force.

PCT Fitness Standards

The Physical Capacity Test (PCT) standards are the same for all applicants regardless of gender. You must meet all six minimum standards:

  • Beep Test (Multi-Stage Fitness Test): Level 7.1 minimum. Cardiovascular fitness test over a 20-metre course synchronised with audio beeps. 1 attempt.
  • Push-Ups: 25 reps minimum. Upper body strength and endurance. May be completed from knees or toes. 1 attempt.
  • Prone Bridge: 90 seconds minimum. Core endurance test performed on hands and toes (push-up position), not elbows. 1 attempt.
  • Handgrip Strength: 30kg minimum each hand using a dynamometer. 2 attempts.
  • Vertical Jump: 30cm minimum. Lower body power test. 2 attempts.
  • Illinois Agility Test: Under 20 seconds. Electronically timed speed and agility test over a 9.14m x 4.6m course. 2 attempts.

  • Tactical Breathing (Box Breathing): 4-second inhale, hold, exhale, hold cycle for acute stress management.
  • Stress Inoculation: Mental rehearsal of challenging scenarios before they happen.
  • Cognitive Reframing: Changing interpretation of stressful events for more balanced responses.
  • Personal Post-Incident Debrief: Structured self-reflection framework for processing difficult incidents.
  • Sleep Hygiene: Practical strategies for healthy sleep on rotating shifts.
  • Peer Support and Help-Seeking: NSW Police support services including PULSE 24/7, Blue Hope, and EAP.

Recruitment Pathway

PolicePath tracks your progress through the NSW Police recruitment phases:

  1. Considering: Exploring the career, checking eligibility.
  2. Preparing: PCT training, gathering documents, completing UCWE and ARS.
  3. Applied: Background checks, PCT, psychometric and medical assessments.
  4. At Academy: 16-week residential training at the NSW Police Academy, Goulburn.
  5. Probationary: 12-month probation as a Probationary Constable.
  6. Confirmed: Confirmed as a Constable of the NSW Police Force.

Readiness Score

Track your overall readiness with a weighted score: Fitness 30%, Knowledge 35%, Scenarios 25%, Consistency 10%. Earn the "Academy Ready" badge at 80% or above.
